    Optical Device

    Hi All,

I am looking for some assistance in identifying the following optical device (see attached photos).

Searching around I cant seem to find much information though I would guess it is some sort of infra-red receiver, possibly used for signalling between ships.

Anyone know details on what this is and how it operates etc?

    Cheers

Just a guess here, but it might be an early hand-held viewer for receiving infra-red light Morse signals.

Thanks Paul, that was my suspicion although I have never been able to find any solid info (and still hunting!)

Five minutes of on-line research equals this: Records of the Bureau of Ships

It may be worth a try.
