Stretch, It sort of snaps into place. Start by putting the spriing portion into the slot. Push on the screw head to compress the spring and at the same time rotate the small end into the slot. Once you get both ends started you can work it into its home position with thumb and finger pressure. If its stubborn you can carefully tap it into position with a nylon drift or block of wood. thank you for the reply Salt Flat. tried that but looks like the collar won't even come close to fitting into the slot. tried putting the small end in first and even tried putting the knurled end in first. just doesn't look like it will fit. part came from Numrich. is there a difference between 1903 and 1903A1 windage knob assemblies?

Stretch, Make sure the sight collar is not damaged. I see many that are beat up from removal or attempts to tighten up the sight. Also the last windage screw I got from Numrich was a reproduction and I suspect yours is too. If the spring is a little long or the screw is out of spec it could be a problem. I suspect though that the block of wood and small hammer would do the trick. A few taps should drive it into position. Salt Flat
