    Question U.S. Smith Corona 03-a3

I am looking for information on the U.S. Smith Corona 03-a3. I hope this site will be a good location to get the information I need to put my 03-a3 back to original condition. I received it with a sporter stock and front sight. I want to get the parts I need to put it back the way it should be. The rifle was manufactured in 1943.

Welcome LayneC. You will be able to get a lot of information here about your rifle. Converting it back to military configuration will not be too difficult. Trying to make it "as issued correct" would be more difficult and probably a little more expensive. To get any detailed help about components and configuration you will need to provide the full serial number and pictures.

There are a number of places to purchase parts via internet/mail or you may be able to purchase from another member here or on other forums. There are also reproduction parts that are being sold thru various outlets. Trigger guards and upper bands are the most noticeable, but with a little research you can identify these easily.

    Good Luck

Is the front sight military? If not the barrel may have been cut. If you need a barrel the cost now went way up.

What should the barrel lenght be? The sight that is on it now is a modern ramp style.

If the receiver has been drilled and tapped for a commercial rear sight, I would say the rifle is not a good candidate for restoration. Can you post some pictures?

The barrel should be 24 inches in length. Does it have a military or commercial front sight?

Pictures of the areas in question and probably your complete rifle will help you get the answers you need.
