amongst my grandafther's WW1 posessions...parker hale & steward bits and bobs

Hi

My grandfather was, as far as I knew, a medical orderly in WW1. He was also a sporting gun enthusiast. Amongst a box containing his general service buttons and various other brass badges I found this little box from J.H. Steward. I assumed it was WW1 issue, but now am not so sure. I have added some photos and can add more if neccessary.

In my attempts to identify it I have unscrewed, all the bits that I can to find model number etc. When I did I found that this bit (sorry complete ignoramus) is marked Parker-Hale ph62.

Also this little brass screw box is marked Parker-Hale.

Having done extensive research (ahem) I am now somewhat confused.

My questions -

When was this made?
What rifle did it fit?
Finally what is it worth?

I wish to sell it and don't want to con anyone by selling it as something it is not.

JH Steward was an opticians founded in 1852. The company still exists, they even have an outpost at Bisley. They are specialists in eye wear and lenses for shooters. The back sight is probably for a .22 Martini actioned target rifle.

The little brass box contains foresight elements and would usually have been fixed to a target rifle. My BSA Model 12 has one.

Beerhunter seems to have gotten it in one...but you should examine the sight closer for markings and take a few different angle pics. The side you'd look at on the rifle and the other side of the sight would help. They date back to turn of the last century and that era. When those rifles were the vogue...we still shoot them now mind...

wow cheers guys I have managed to find an M 51 on part of the sight, but otherwise no markings. I'll go and have a look at rifleman.co.uk.
