    NOS Magazines

I'm sure this has been posted before but could not find it. These New USGI Mags going around I bought a few and some of them feed nice with No Problems, but some are sticking on second shot then I fix it and get a couple more shots then it stops feeding from right side i see that this only happens on the right side of mag. Is this where sometimes you need to adjust the lip so it will not hang up. What exactly has to be done to it but not to ruin them. I would like to fix them since I bought them and not only use the few that work. This happened on 2 of my Carbines my Inland, NPM. Thanks

Are you sure these are USGI mags Frank? That would be the FIRST time I've hard of 15 rd mags not working when as new. Matter of fact, I've had some that were pretty scaly that still worked perfectly. There's lots oem aftermarket out there and the Chinese are making them EXACTLY as the OEM mags...right to the wrapping.

if you got those mags from Colin did you take off the base plate and clean out all the grease and cosmo? I have had to take all my NOS mags I got from him apart to clean, they were loaded with that stuff.

What he said. Regardless of your source, mineral spirits are your friend.

And , even if you've taken hundreds of other mags apart , well esp. if you have , the mag spring goes in BACKWARDS from the rest . High side to the rear .

It does pay to check the magazine springs, even in GI taken out of the wrapper. I have actually found a couple (two that I recall) through the years that came from the factory with it backwards. Maybe the assembler worked on the BAR magazine assembly line before!

Severely cosmolined mags can mis-feed and stick. While leaving a little film of cosmolineicon on the springs is not a bad thing, I always clean the bodies and followers with boiling water or mineral spirits, then lube with Ballistol.

Yes there the ones from Colin, but I did remove the bottom plate and looked inside and I left the spring exactly like how it came out. I brushed the inside and they were pretty clean. Let me take a picture and post what I'm talking about.

Sorry I don't know why I can't get these pics to look straight they sometimes come out like this. The Springs are all correct.

I wish you could, too. Jim. It's just strange. When you have them in your hand you see the curved lip and most of the other mags the lip does not have that curve. Most mags bend in just a bit while the other has that curve towards the front of the follower. Maybe it's something else, but I did take both Carbines as you can see the use of the mags. When it happened to one Carbine it did the same with the other. The mags are Nice though a lot better than the ones I had.
