Afternoon all,
I had the L1A1's out today to take some group pictures for the first time, never got around to it for some reason. I need to photograph the bayonets and accessories at some point.

Nice rifles...I never did mind carrying those. If I had a choice between that and the Sub Machine Gun C1 at the time, I'd way rather carry the rifle...it felt better and was more...

The Singapore Police were all real shortarses and am sure that they'd have had short butts although they were all wood while we had them there.
We used to have their stuff through the big Base Workshop. Their stuff was generally very good. They had Webley revolvers while we had Enfields and Mr Amto the exeminer gave them all of our remaining Webley spares We got to know the man responsible for their weapons quite well. His name was Mr Richard Soliano. As we all came from 'up-country' for these big repair programmes he would meet us singlies (the single blokes) in Singapore City and take us out for a posh meal. Saw my first 'shortie' flash eliminator there.

With that past us now, the mandatory downtown discussions...what about this shorty flash hider? Slotted like ours or vented like the FAL? Wouldn't fit a bayonet any longer then?

It was the Australian shorty one fitted to some of the Singapore Police rifles. They had little short vents and took the standard bayonets although I don't ever remember seeing any bayonets come in with the Police stuff. I seem to think/recall that their tactical squads were made up from ex Gurkha soldiers. That's the sort of Police Force that people would listen to or at least, not upset - twice!

The short flash hider was supposed to be detrimental to accuracy but with a short butt fitted, the rifle was a little bit handier in the field.
All this talk of C1's and such caused me to get out my old home build to show you. With Badger's kind help of course!
