    someone got reamed

Well look at this auction and read the description.

PRE WWII BRITISH ENFIELD NO. 4 MK 1 (T) TRIALS RIF : Curios & Relics at GunBroker.com

What I notice is someone added a Numrich wooden cheekpiece to the buttstock. Not even an original piece of wood

It has a replaced magazine, band set and forend. Butt stock is a replacement and lacks the disc The sight looks to be a longbranch. The only parts that seem to be correct for a trials rifle are the action, bolt and likely the barrel. Someone added the front stacking swivel.

    3,402 dollars

A fool and his money are soon parted.

There should be some means allowed to post auctions where the goods are misrepresented.

See this is exactly why I have no interest in collecting sniper rifles. Too much you need to know to make a informed decision, and too many people faking them trying to take your hard earned money.

Its been in military Service probably with two or three different countries, I doubt if it would have retained all its original Trials feature's.

Wise words Simon. EVERYONE ought to take that on board. It's nearly 80 years old for heavens sake! Can we assume that the trials rifles that were STILL in service in the 90's in their L42 guise were worth a fraction of the concourse/original price '........because they weren't original'?

That used to be one of my thoughts, until recently.... but to finally find a decent example at a very good price changed my out look on them, could take me many years before the next one but in the meantime have my .22 trainers to concentrate on (Enfields) and this is what promoted me to start a clear out, even my bayonet collection had got out of hand so a cull here also...... more reason for a greater cull is an impulse purchase the other day, but its something that I,ve never seen for sale before and price wise was fair but somethings got to go to fund it, all part of the collecting process.

For some reason that seller on gunbroker always sells for high dollars everything that he list with little or no reserve.Must have a loyal following like Joe Salter

There were four different bidders over $2700 and one still hanging on at a few dollars under $3400. Maybe they had some of the original parts to better correct it in their parts bin. Ray

The fake cheek piece is the issue. It was represented as original. Maybe not explicitly, but it was very strongly implied.

    Here is the repro part

Sniper Scope, No. 32, MKII, Reproduction Gun Parts | 1249080 | Numrich Gun Parts

Nurmrich made it so you could tell the difference, there is a dip in the middle and the shape of the front of the cheek piece is not correct.

The Numrich repop cheekpieces are copied from the Australianicon pattern for the SMLE to boot.

Thanks for the info. A fellow we call “Dog **** Dave” was selling a fake “T” sniper at the last HGCA show here with that same cheek piece. I thought he might have made it.

He always has one or two fake Dance revolvers. Supposedly dog urine is used in the faking process,, hence the name.
