    Nice....thanks for posting the pics.

It looks like a good one for me..LOL. I'm curious, the stacking swivel looks like it has green park
on it? And does it matter if the bands, swivels, and bayonet stud/band is green park?

Is this something they would've done with a arsenal rebuild? I assume the original finishes were
    blued, except for the receiver.

    Regards,

    Regards,

The gun which I pictured is within 5,000 units of the end of 03-A3 production in Feb of 1944. A few near the very last received some parkerized parts. This is a little more prevalent toward the very end of the Smith Corona run.

Thats ok. Keep looking and do not by one unless you are sure it is all correct! If you do not know how to tell than by a good 03-A3 book.

I was going to get him to email me some pics of it to see what I thought, anyway, I've been doing some homework on the 03A3's and reading all I can, guess what, I'm learning a few things
    ....LOL!

BTW: here is an interesting article about the 1903's, 1903 modified, 1903A3, and 1903A4's

    http://www.nramuseum.com/media/94044...pringfield.pdf

I've also been looking for some reading that's in the '03 Springfield Rifles' Era book, written by Clark S. Campbell
that is one high priced book...LOL.

Busta chip, I learned a lotta stuff studying this sight, I am not well heeled enough to be a collector of all correct vintage weapons, I'm more of a functional quantity rather than absolute quality sort so I am very thoughtful and careful ,when I make a purchase If I'm going to keep doing it and just got schooled following this thread. If your in N.C. there's a lot of places to shoot maybe even outside the back door of the sellers place of business, let him pull the trigger a few times from standing and then buy ammo with the 300 you save at Creedmore, or save the cash for more correct m1903a3 when you find one. You will not find a 500 yd, gong there. (just make sure hes not like a marksman) bring good pictures straight off to this site and then be prepared to move on it when your good. Good Luck!

Same here Doco overboard.....I'm not a collector either, but I do love military history, I got that from my father, he studied the civil war as well as the world wars for years.
I too came here looking for information on old military rifles, and I'm looking for the most correct "shooter" that I can find...LOL. I've already tripled what I knew about the 03A3.

    Regards,
