    New Toy

    TOP
    Here a new toy for the collection, a 1960s? L1A1 Cap Rifle made by The Crescent Toy Company

    BOTTOM
    and to keep with the English theme........ "...do I make you horny babe..." I believe this FAL rifle to of been used in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery movie. There were 15 rifles sold off from one Prop House in the States to another prop house who then sold of a small number of rifles (probably the most damaged examples). The overall number of rifles would be about right for the 'Britishicon Paras' shown in the movie as the 'real' rifles used in the movie were FALs, imported into the US in the 80s.

    If the film prop is made from compressed rubber keep it out of sunlight - or even light if you can because after a few years they start to disintegrate/delaminate. I had a 'Band of Brothers' Thompson SMG compressed rubber film prop and after 5 years or so the outside was virtually powder.

    Who remembers the AIRFIX SLR L1A1 Then?..................Lovely little Rifle that I always lusted after. But sadly never managed to obtain one! They also came with a plastic bayonet (No Scabbard) on a large card
    Baseboard display.

    There has been one on 'That' Auction site for quite a while now. However...listed at £700 that is why it is still up for sale!.......

    I don't remember the Airfix kit Tankie. Was it a full size one?

    Talking of which....... In the Daily Mail (a national UKicon newspaper) on Thursday it showed a set of 16 year old triplets about to join the Army. They were shown with an SA80 dummy rifle each. Clearly dummy rifles. Can anyone (Skippy or BP ?) tell us what these are nowadays? We used to have a few different types of dummy rifles ranging from welded solid 'back-packer' rifles to fragile resin/plastic replicas for recruit training. But haven't seen the latest incarnation.

    A classic of the 70's! The barrel always broke off at the gas regulator. The magazine can out and was loaded with silver/grey plastic bullets which it fired at some speed, spring powered.

    Just imagine the Health and Safety bods if you sold those these days, not to mention the fact that ARVs would be descending upon little kids all over town!

    I've always been on the lookout for one, but they are rarer than a rare thing, and the one on ebay is commanding a kings ransom.

    Very fond memories of the Airfix FN rifle, about 50 years ago, cost about 7/6d (7 shillings and sixpence, that's 37.5p or $0.54) which was a lot of pocket money in those days. Even more pocket money now apparently. The barrels used to break, so the armourer's fix was to stuff a pencil in to join the two halves. Did nothing for the rate of fire of those plastic bullets!

    As we are talking toys, the smaller variety, here are a couple of 1/6 L1A1s that I couldn't resist;

    p.s.
    Sorry about the SUIT sights Peter, even 1/6 shooters are usually in trouble!

    There you go Pete, the photo provided by Roy says it all. It was NOT a kit. It came ready to 'fire' grey solid plastic 'Bullets' Happy days indeed!
