    1903 / 1903A3 Stock

    Hi:
Assisting a neighbor in installing a Model 1903 Stock onto a Model 1903A3 Rifle.
The Model 1903A3 Rifle does not fit into the portion of the Model 1903 stock forward of the breech where the barrel enters the action ?
    Suggestions/Opinions
    Thank you,
    Jimmy

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. The 03A3 stock has a cutout just forward of the breach where the handguard ring rests. The 03 does not have a handguard ring. This area of the stock will have to be inletted to allow the A3 to sit.
Is this an actual USGI 03 stock with grasping grooves? If so, wouldn't be better to find a A3 "S" stock so the 03 stock isn't ruined by inletting?

I agree - M1903A3 stocks are still pretty easy to find (or Scant stocks with the inletting).
