30 Round Magazine Question

Would anybody know anything about the production of the 30 round hardback USGI magazine before the different type USGI splitbacks started being made and put in production and replaced the hardbacks ? Also how many different markings did the hardback have. Thanks

I have had "AI" and either "KI" or "SEY" hardbacks (I can'y remember which). I believe all hardbacks are WWII production (1944-1945) but i may be incorrect. Bill Ricca would probably know.

I have 2 Very Nice Hardbacks they look like there in New Collector Condition, but my Splitbacks looks like they have been used plenty. So I was thinking that these Hardbacks were only made long enough to get these Splitbacks made and out quick for the Soldiers to use.

JimF4M1s since you have so many i'm assuming you know a lot about these when you started Collecting them. Are those marked KI over M2 were they constructed different then the others ? I seen one here and checked the side lug to my SEY Hardbacks and to my SEY SplitBack and under the side lug you can a big difference under it.. Also I guess I can also say that my SEY Harbacks re-enforcement groves look to have there own style compared to my SEY Splitback and the others I have. The SEY SplitBack groove looks to be more shallow than the others. Since you have so many can you see this or I can send you the pic and the Text Drawing on it so you can see it, as you know I started to buy these and Collect a few, but with people forging these I also need to know the difference in the stamping of the name and how deep it should be and what type of tooling should be on the real SEY Splitbacks and the Collectable ones amongst all the other listed above incase some more of these come across my way on the 2 other Texas Trader Website I frequently go to. I would hate to buy from some person on these auction sites and not knowing more about the details. One more thing which are the correct Weld spots would be correct against the fake one's ? Thanks

I'm not anymore informed on 30 round mags then anyone else. Just what I have read and seen first hand. They are getting harder to find, so I have saved up a few.

Are you talking about the hardening marks on the tab? I've seen them different on a lot of mags. All my SEY marked look the same. Not difference in depth of marking.
