I'm not anymore informed on 30 round mags then anyone else. Just what I have read and seen first hand. They are getting harder to find, so I have saved up a few.
Are you talking about the hardening marks on the tab? I've seen them different on a lot of mags. All my SEY marked look the same. Not difference in depth of marking.
Here is a write up on them.

Thank You Jim for the Email. What you said and what you attached helped a bit. I started lurking on some others forums and seen some nice pics and nice Details on the differences of all the different Military 30 Round Mags. I also been searching past posts here on Milsurps. One thing I can't seem to figure out on these few unmarked 30 rnd Mags that I have and work very nice I wonder who made them even those new Korean ones you see everywhere for sale have a mark.

There were some aftermarket mags in the 80s that were as good as GI. They were unmarked, but had the same welds and squared corners of the GI ones. I may still have one in my stuff. Next time I am in the gun safe I'll check.
