For the serial range you mentioned your rifle to be in, 3,119,000 range, there should have been a "spread" RLB - R L B

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I can't see one anywhere.

I'm reasonably satisfied that this is a genuine military stock. (Not a commercial replacement) so thank you all!

Have another picture , this time with a WW2 Utica 16 Inch Bayonet attached!

Thanks again for all your input guys!

    I agree - a military stock. Nice 16" bayonet, too! A 16" always looks MUCH better on a M1903 than a 10"!

Yea I think chuck is right about the RLB. I can sort of make it out right behind the rear reinforcement bolt on the left side (right where it should be). Sometimes you really have to look . Try different lighting--natural light , strong flashlight etc. and at different angles. Salt Flat

Thanks guys! I think I see it! It is quite dark and faded, but I think I can see an RLB. The R has survived the most. The L is partially covered by a scratch. As is the B. but I can definitely see it now.

    Thanks again everyone. Ideal Result!

RLB spread and no box, just behind the rear cross bolt, under the scratches.
