Hungarian G98/40 30-06 Cal. value?

Does anyone know the value of a 30-06 cal. Hungarian G98/40 with the markings 41 JHV?

I know most of them were made 8m. I believe mine was made in 1941. It has several swastika markings on it.

Good evening:
Your rifle is essentially worth the price of a good 30--06 sporter rifle. These rifles are not super common, being a variant of the pre-war Hungarian service rifle, modified once the Germans took over to be somewhat more standard. The original Hungarian 38.M was modified to accept a standard s98/05 German bayonet, the magazine was modified to a Mauser style box, the calibre was changed to 8x57, front sight hood added, etc. They are different than the standard K98 in that they have a two piece stock, and an unusual bolt. Yours has been completely "sporterized" post war. The full wood stock has been removed and replaced with a synthetic stock, one piece by the look of it. The barrel has been swapped out. The only original parts as best I can see are the bolt and receiver and probably magazine well. Does it shoot well--if so, it is a good all round game rifle but has pretty much zero collectors value. Curious about the receiver though--IIRC when the Norwegians converted their 8mm Mausers to 30-06 they had to cut a little divet out of the back of the receiver ring as the 30-06 is a bit longer; there might have been a magazine issue as well but can't remember that. do the 30-06 fit well in this rifle?

Thanks for the information boltaction. The magazine holds (5) rounds of 30-06 with no problems. There doesn't appear to be any altering to the magazine or action. When I chamber a round theres a bit of tightness when I lock the bolt down all the way. I don't know if thats normal or not.

Actually I take that back. It is a two piece stock after all. I wonder if one was ever purpose made for this or if it is a modification of one made for the Lee Enfields maybe? Looks like the bolt matches which is nice. Have you shot it yet? If not, I would get it checked out by a gunsmith, unless it was a modification done by a gunsmith to begin with. If it's been well done, it should be a good shooter and virtually indestructible in the bush.

That's about right...a custom sporter that is. Not a factory standard.
