I do not know the year of manufacture, but I believe nearly all of them were completed in a very short period of time, just a few years. Having installed bayonets on many rifles, over the years with and without the scabbard, there are probably more that can be mounted with than can't. All those with high rings can have the scabbards as well as most spike bayonets. Only those few with bayonets that mount close to the barrel will have an issue. K98icon style bayonets being one example.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. If memory serves me correctly I did see or read somewhere that this was the only rifle/bayonet combination where the scabbard could remain attached to the bayonet while the bayonet was fitted to the rifle. I can't quite believe it's the only combination where this is possible but equally I'm unable to think of another example where it can be done.
I have installed bayonets on many rifles with the scabbards on them. It just depends on the rifle and bayonet. Examples where this is possible include the Arisakaicon rifles, Carcano rifles, and I believe some Swissicon rifles. I would have to go and retry a bunch of rifles as it wasn't really something I was paying attention to at the time.

I never really believed it when I saw it or read it but I have never put the theory to the test.
