Sharing a couple pics of something I hadn't noticed on my Paratrooper Carbine.

I noticed the mark before but thought it was a scratch. After looking at the pic up close I realized it is a carved checkmark.

I have seen notches on the grip before. Any ideas on what the checkmark means?

Someone on another forum suggested it might a V for victory.

Here is a pic of the left side, no markings that I can see. Is that the area you are talking about? Should there be something there?

Cool. Can you post a pic of the mark so we can see it? Now you got me curious.

Humans can spot an elephant in the clouds so our imagination indeed knows no bounds. However it is too neat and clean to be a scratch. I am going with personal ID mark. GI wanted to be able to spot his propped next to the others when time to gear up and move out. It's a personal(ization) thing. There is nothing unique or interesting about a scratch so it can't be that. <0

But... that is not an elephant. And I have never seen the man in the moon. So it must be a check mark.

    HD,
IMO, It is a check mark, and I'm sure it meant something to the GI that put it there.

Some folk's have no imagination at all , they just sit and stare .
