    Yugo M48

I would like to set up a group discussion about the Yugoicon M48. I have one and am trying to use a Brass Stacker scope mount with a Burris 2X7X48(?) variable scout LER scope. Please respond if you have one of these rifles.

Probably half the guys here have one. There already is a discussion group, you're in it. Just ask your questions, post photos if possible and you'll get all sorts of opinions.

I'd be interested in what other people say, as I've been looking at some various scout mounts for my Yugoicon project though I have no need to keep that original and am researching just mounting a piece of rail right to the sight block.

I will say that just looking at this mount I am concerned by the number it pieces that go into it, the more pieces you have to put together the harder it is to get them to fit tightly and stay in one place. My two chief concerns are that you mount it to a recoil lug and the fact the rail is not part of the mount itself. That said I'd be interested in hearing how it actually works in practice.

That is the issue I am dealing with at this point. The best i can get so far is the windage on center. Elevation is the real problem. The people who make the Brass Stacker stand behind it, and I have talked to one of their techs. He says there are ways to adjust it with the allen nuts that have the recessed cup that fits over the pin going through the rear hard sight. I tried that. But, it is like you said, there are so many adjustments that have to be made it is getting dicey. I might just end up having to ship the mount back and try a different LER mount made by S & K. It to does not alter the originality of the rifle. I am going to try one more time to get things lined up. 25 yds is 2" to high and can't get on paper at 100 yards.

I have the SK mount on my M48 with an old Redfield 2 1/2x LER scope that I had for years.
The rifle shot well without it, but with it the rifle became a MOA shooter for me.
My eyesight and Mauser sights really didn't get along very well, if they only came with peep sights.
I searched through the no smith mounts for this rifle and decided I liked the SK the best.
To me it's the most solid and fool proof of any of the NGS mounts out there. Hope this helps. - Bill

eta: It took almost no time to bore sight it on the bench and another 4 rounds to fine tune it.

Thanks for the input. I am getting frustrated with the Brass Stacker. In theory it looks like it should work well. And, I am going to give it another go before I make a decision to send it back. My question in looking at the SK mount is how does it attach at the rear of the hard sight. I figure one has to drive the pin out that holds the forward part of the hard sight in place in order to attach the forward part of the SK mount. How does the rear attach?

Yes the pin and the sight must be removed, it's not hard to do but be careful not to cause damage with an incorrect punch.
The next step is to remove the spring that was under the sight. There is a groove under where the spring was that a part with a threaded sleeve fits into.
Then a screw goes through the rail/base that screws into that threaded sleeve and 2 screws one on either side screw in where the pin went through.
Solid as a rock. It really is in my opinion the absolutely strongest scout mount for a Mauser on the market. - Bill
