Remington 1903A3 restoration
I recently was given a 1903 A3 that has been sporterized and want to restore it to original condition. The stock of course has been changed but most everything else seems original. I do have two questions though. The serial number is 41040xx. The date of production is in question as from the information I can find varies. The barrel is dated 9/43. Is it a 9/43 production rifle? Which stock would be correct for the rifle, the scant or the C model? My eyes are blurry from reading website that all seem to disagree. Thanks.

Your receiver was serialized about December, 1943; the barrel is most likely original. They made a LOT of 9-43 RA barrels and they are seen on a large number of later M1903A3s.
A correct stock would be a "straight" stock (the shape of the small of the stock, that is) with an FJA and RA stamp, as well as a ordnance "wheel" (actually an ordnance "belt").
A Scant (semi-pistol grip) or Type C stock would be a replacement on any M1903A3. They were used as original on M1903A4 sniper rifles.
