Here are a couple more milsurps I have. The Swede and M1 are good by me, but then again my standards might be a touch lower than some around here.

But I was wondering about the P-17 in the front, is this a good rifle to consider restoring ?

yes, the 1917 not P17 is a great rifle, check out the 1917 forum on the CSP pages, lots of great info.

ahhhh, i just put my eyeballs back on, looked a little closer, that rifle is a bit too far gone to bring back, the sight ears are ground off, and the barrel cut down, the barrel is an easy fix, but the sight ears are a tough one.

Indeed, intact metal is a better starting point.

I'm soon going to finish a P14, parts are available, fun restoration project.

by the way,,,that bench is a waaaaay to clean, a sign of a sick mind..lol.

That '17 looks like one of the ones commercially sporterized by BSA in the '50s. Might not be a restoration candidate, but it certainly should be an excellent hunting rifle.
Yes, that bench is far too clean. Why, if you dropped a part, you would not have the challenge of searching for it.

...when you dismantle the "click" mechanism on an irreplaceable sight (because the screw was FUBAR, in case you're wondering why) ever so carefully, and is spite of your care it all goes "ping" ... then you REALLY, REALLY wish you had a spotless white floor and not tons of junk UNDER your bench!

well, thats a mixed thing for me, i dont clean the floor, for that reason. and i take those kind of things apart under a shop rag, keeps the {boing} thing down.
learned that a long time ago:}
had a customer ask me why i dont run the vack under my bench, i said heck, you can find some good parts in that mess, if you get on your hands and knees, lol.

I have picked up a couple of those small stainless steel pans with magnets mounted underneath.
