Finland declared independence from Russiaicon in 1917. Taking advantage of the revolutionary environment in Russia at the time, the Finnishicon White Guards expelled all communist. The armories left behind became the property of the new Finnish Republic. The Russian Model 1891 became the standard issue to Finnish troops. These rifles were not to the specifications required by the Finnish army so the Finnish m/39 was rebuilt upon Russian Model 1891 receivers and included new barrels, sights, and stocks.

These rifles saw action in Continuance War against the Soviet Union. The tactics of the Finnish army depended upon smaller squads of attacking troops and the deployment of snipers.

After the Winter and Continuance wars the Finn's had a new influx of Russian Model 1891/30 and never had to manufacture receivers.

This Finnish m/39 Mosin-Nagant is the one of the finest examples of the Mosin Nagant rifle. Incredible feats of accuracy with these rifles will make any shooter a true believer.

    finn 39

a few years ago I bought one of these from one of the few importers into the country. The barrel was a sako. Yes, the front sight is adjustible too.
Anyway, I cleaned the goop out of the barrel, loosely cleaned the rest of it, i.e. wiped it down, and took it out on the desert with some other rifles.
When done shooting the other rifles, I thought I would give the finn a try. Using cheap russian ammo. I loaded a stripper clip, and was firing at one of those red one gallon folger plastic coffee cans at 100yards. Hit the sucker five out of five.
The finns did a great job with these rifles. It has the hex 1891 reciever which they all have.
I might add that I ain't that great a shot, and was firing sitting on the tail gate of my truck, off hand.

    current prices

That kind of surprised me too, but I wouldn't totally be surprised, they are fully as good as a swedish mauser, maybe better.
I got mine quite a while back but even then I think it was around 200bucks without checking.
Lot different than your standard moisin for 69bucks, but while they kind of look the same, they aren't.
    Truely good shooters.
