Is the marking on the top or side of the barrel?

I will have to check as the rifle is not in my possession. Before I respond to the seller, what else should I ask?

    LI,

Those markings will be on the top under the hand guard, barel date about 2-51.

You can check the barrel's side for the barrel date (as Ramboueille mentioned 2-51) and the manufacturer (ie Springfield Armory). A typical coding would be:
    S-A-2-51.

The markings, including the heat lot number, indicate that it is likely an early 1951 made barrel.

As the others suggested, look for the barrel date on the side of the barrel under the op rod.

I'll take a shot at it.

O6535448 is D6535448 just the barrel number.

    40 ???.

    A142C heat lot code.

    M is for magnaflux.

    T is targeted.

No P there should be a P somewhere.

    How about the date also?
