    8mm Surplus

Something that occured to me about Russiaicon. As we know Russia scooped up alot of German weapons and stored them for awhile in case they needed rifles in a hurry again. Anyway the K98icon RC's we now see on the markets are some of them but what made me wonder was that in order to use them in an emergency in Russia, they must of had an enormous supply of ammunition for them. Anyone know if this true or if they had a supply and where do you think the ammunition is?

They also scooped up most of the ammunition factories the Germans had

I'm sure there's piles of it in warehouses and salt mines across the old Warsaw Pact countries.

Not that NRCan would let it be sold in Canadaicon. Safety first, don't you know.

John from Marstar mentioned somewhere on CGN that they would be bringing in some Yugoicon 8mm surplus this summer.

That would be nice. I believe Milarm in Edmonton still has Yugo '50s ball in stock. They're out of case lots, though.

I'm not going to hold my breath. Marstar, as great as they are, has a recent track record of promising the moon and coming up short.

There's plenty of Yugoslavian stuff here (which suffers from casehead splits) and Italianicon-made stuff (which suffers from hangfires).

The Russians dumped thousands of the capture rifles, to their satelites all over the world. There were a lot of Sovieticon supplied Mauser 98s, in Korea, used by the North Koreans, Africa and China. Viet Nam, got their share as well. That just covers a few.
I would suspect, that many millions of rounds of ammunition, went with those rifles.

That doesn't mean, there isn't a huge storage depot, somewhere, full of this stuff. The Soviets, didn't believe in scrapping anything. As far as the equipment for making the ammo goes, it is all easily refurbed to make any cartridge you want, as long as it has similar proportions.

    8mm Surplus...and other things

If the Russians ever let loose some of the 8x57mm surplus ammo, do you think there might be a chance to get some of our Ross rifles back too?
