    Mystery Socket Bayonet

Been a while since I managed two blades/bayonets in such a short time period. Found this at one of the local antique shops today. No idea what it is, no markings I can find, it's fairly clean so I don't think it ever had any.

    Maybe a US 1816 bayonet?

Socket is 3 1/8th inches long

    Socket diameter is 7/8 inches

Overall length is 19 3/8 inches

Blade at widest is 13/16 inches

There is a blood groove in the top of the blade that is 9 1/8 inches long starting at the tip

I checked the length in Kiesling and didn't come up with a match. I haven't gone through all the photos yet. That takes a while.

Those are so hard to tell apart, without clear markings, and even then they are so close you usually can't tell which one it is.

1816 bayonets are not in Kiesling for some reason, but he does have a fencing bayonet in there made from one so that's what gave me the idea that's what it is and after further research, the dimensions all seem to fit, the 9-inch blood groove, socket length and overall length are correct. Visually it looks the same and the T groove is only on them and a Belgian bayonet that otherwise isn't close. I only paid $45 for it so I got a decent deal if that's what it is.
