    Fake or Real ??

I have been searching for muzzle cover with a 1943 date. I found this on Epay, but looks fake to me...the strap has a large weave, and I am not sure Boyt made these. Opinions are very welcome...and if you have one for sale...I will take it. Thank you. . http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=350196046041

I highly suspect that one to be a repro. I have also seen a couple marked tweedy that I felt were suspect. 1943 dtd Muzzle Covers are bit harder to find, but they are out there. However the fakers have gone to town the last couple years. Here's some pics of whats in my collection, bought before the fakery started.

    From left to right I have LYON & COULSON / 1944, VICTORY MFG. / 1944, CHARLES / 1943, E.A.B.C.O. / 1943, B.L. / '44, and ROBEY TACKLE CO. / 1944.

I suspect, but have yet to confirm that the B.L. / '44 may be a Britishicon contract piece based on the style of the "US" which is identical to the "US" markings I have seen on other British made for the U.S. Army web gear.

There are several other original manufacturers out there. When looking to puchase I usually look for the right patina or even slight corrosion from age on the snaps to help determine originality.

Marked Boyt 1943. Seller doesn't claim it to be real. Made in China fake.

I emailed him, asked if he knew it to be real or fake. He answered that he was told it was original.

"he was told it was original". Gee, I want it now. NO. No. No. Pass on this fake. I was Phoenix Gun how last December. A dealer had piles of mint WWII USGI canvas slings for sale. MINT! All had a very small paper tag on them "Made in China". ALL, got it? I decide to buy one and came back the next morning. ALL GONE. They said some dealer walked up and bought everyone of them. On I see piles of "original" USGI WWII slings on Ebay. Let the buyer beware.

Just a quick note on canvas slings. All US GI standard M1icon slings were stored together. There were probably 15-25 different contracts thru the 1960's with several different fittings, weave types, fabric thickness and shades, and stiffness.

When you see all new slings, all identical, you can be 99% sure they are fake. I have a few drums of original slings left and they vary greatly.

Here is an example of original carbine slings:

Reminder: When they are all identical, they are almost always reproductions.

I am currently working on a page of Muzzle Covers. The page is not finished yet, as I have to post an image of the cover on a carbine/rifle.

If anybody has pictures of any that are not on this page, I would appreciate it if you could forward me a faily large sized image. With your permission I will list you on the page as a contributor.
