    Can you tell when picture was taken ??

    Can you guess about what year this picture was taken. Don't forget, Marines used old gear for quite a while. After a number of replys I will supply the answer. Sorry for the quality of the picture. Semper Fi, Joe

    Litt'le Lee, those are very good observations and should put you right in the ball park. I was sure the leather sling would throw some off, ignore it. But we did have the metal cheverons by 1959.

    Those are the later version HBT's, with the V pocket flaps, we wore those in the early 60's until the BDU's came out.

    I would guess that pic to be somewhere in the late 50's to the mid 60's.

    Members of Hotel Company, 3rd. Bn, 8th Marines on training exercise in Vieques P.R. from March to May of 1957.(TRAEX 1-57) Most of the 782 gear, packs, helmets, entrenching tools shelter halfs and such were WW2 issue.
