    6 Snipers

Wow, six Enfield snipers on Colletor's Source, Military Collectibles. Imagine that all in one place! Can it be true?

Value is in the eye of the beholder and how knowledgeable he is...

Before you wade into buying Enfield No.4(T) sniper rifles, you should get really up to speed as to what all correct and "righteous" ones look like, then you can evaluate the ones Collector's Source is selling within that context.

MKLicon Entry for a 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle
(Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c)
    c/w matching Model No.32 Mk.3 Scope (Mfg by Taylor-Hobson & Co.)

    ............. (click here) ............

I like the folks at Collector's Source and I've bought a fair amount of different pieces from them. Having said that, make sure clearly understand what all of these six snipers are.

They are a collection of "put togethers", "miss-matches" and in some cases broken scopes (or no scopes), with one case of a No.7 (.22 caliber) converted transit chest.

If you had to add an authentic No.32 Mk3 scope/mount to an un-scoped rifle, you might find one on eBay, which could sell for almost $1200-$1500 U.S., then if it needs repair by Peter Laidlericon in Englandicon, it could cost another $250 U.S. plus parts.

    No. 4 Mk 1 (T) Sniper, British, NR1548 $2,750.00

    No. 4 Mk 1(T) Sniper British NR1488 $850.00
Rifle only, M47, 1944 dated, dark stock, VG, Bore VG. C broad arrow stamped on butt socket.

    No. 4 Mk 1(T) Sniper British, NR 2050 $3,200.00
M47, 1944 dated, rifle shows use and wear G+-VG. Bore VG. Sling, scope number does not match rifle, Mk 3 scope, leather caps, W and B marked. Scope tin, No. 7 box converted and lettered to No. 15. E-mail for 2 more photos.

    No. 4 Mk 1(T) Sniper British, NR1840 $3,200.00
M47, 1945 dated, Mk 3 scope, leather caps, mount matches rifle, scope stamped on stock. Scope has post only, no cross hair. Otherwise VG, Bore VG. E-mail for more photos.

    No. 4 Mk 1(T) Sniper British, NR1850 $800.00
Rifle only, M47, 1945 dated, Dark stock, VG with sling, bore VG. Magazine matches.

    No. 4 Mk 1(T) Sniper, British, NR1485 $775.00
Rifle only, M47, 1944 dated, light stock stained dark. Not marked at wrist or forend.
I'm sure stencollector, tiriaq, claven2 and a few other Enfield experienced members here will post and help add some color as well.

Hope this helps add some perspective.

    Regards,
    Badger

It looks as though even their $3200 4T's are not perfect examples with either mismatched or damaged scopes.

For $3200 from a dealer, I'd expect all the add-ons and everything just perfect. But if you are really desperate for one RIGHT NOW, these are available.

Damn you guys. Just when I get a spare buck in my pocket, you have to post a list of Enfields at Collector's source.

OK, I'll agree that all of these are kind of at the top end of their price ranges. Collectors source usually leads the pack on prices, but if you don't like their prices today, in a year they'll be right on, and in two years you'll dream of them.

Without looking too deeply at whats right or wrong with the guns presented, the following prices seem to be market these days:
    scope by itself: $1000
    scope bracket (origional) $600-800
    scope can: 500-650
    Rifle with brackets: $750-900
    Origional leather sling: $75-200

The wooden rifle chest is a $400 box these days, but a modified #7 chest is $30 to 100.

So using these prices as a guideline, it is about market price to just buy the set as opposed to trying to piece it together and possibly paying several hundred more in postage, shipping and duty.

Anyway, all that said, I have my call in to Fred for the C/i\ marked Enfield 4T. Since a run of the mill Enfield in that shape will run you $400 these days, a rifle with the pads and that expensive C on the side is OK by me.

It was only 7 years ago I was buying complete rifles with chest, scope and can for this price mind you.

I'm afraid one of the most awe inspiring hours of my life was spent in a room with in excess of a dozen No4T rifles in the racks. Mind you, he also has three different set up WW1 scoped snipers and two Gallilean sighted rifles as well. Since this pic he added several Longbranch 4T's to his collection (about 12 if I remember correctly)
They don't make 'em anymore, you gotta get what you can, when you can.

I guess you have to change the title of this thread to 5 snipers....the Cdn marked one is mine. I got the email back from Al.
It'll make a nice companion with my LB 4T. Now I will have a Cdn made sniper that saw Britishicon use, and a British made sniper that saw Cdn use.

Son: A very impressive collection. Any photos of the Gallilean sighted rifles? I have one set of Lattey type sights that I picked up at a local gunshow some years ago. Unfortunately the glass is gone from the front bracket. I'd love to find some info on the lens so I could possibly have one reproduced. Oh well, what would one expect for $25?

Stencollector, My mate managed to get a few pics that day. Been invited back anytime- will be taking 2 or 3 gig+ of memory cards and a pocket full of batteries. This shot shows both the Gallileans and all 3 scoped rifles. The closest one has a lens at the rear sight, the second one has a range sight attached.... unsure if they used a magnifying lens or not....
As for $25 for your sight without a glass in it.... I'll take a dozen! I'm pretty sure if you found a sympathetic optomitrist he'd revel in the challenge to make it work! The trick is to make the person think they are the only one on the planet who can do it......

Thanks for the pics. I'm fairly certain that there was a magnification involved. I was planning on going the optomitrist route if I ever get around to this project.
Mine is similar to the ones shown, except mine was made from brass. It has the /i\ mark on it. The only no1mk3 in my gunroom was purchased just to mount the Gallilean onto.
