Hello all, I recently pulled the trigger and purchased one of these from a seller in Italy. I have no idea what it really is but he has it listed as an M1 carbine rear sight protector. I haven't received it in the mail yet but I'm anxious to fiddle with it to see if it really does fit on an adjustable rear sight. Does anyone know anything about these? Could these possibly be universal and fit many rear sights on many other firearms? I can't find these anywhere else except from that one seller and his description says specifically for the M1 carbine. Could this possibly be an Italian military accessory or would it just be an Italian commercial accessory? Thanks

Jon, somewhere I've seen a picture of an open crate of Carbines with those protectors on them. Could have been in one of the WB books - not sure. Don't have time to look for it right now, but if it turns up I'll let you know. Wonder if they will fit the same on both types of adjustables? - Bob
Thanks Wayne! Now I'm going to have to hunt me one of those muzzle caps they used during the harsh winter conditions haha. Maybe even the K98, m34 cleaning kit they used for the carbine.
I like to collect anything related to the carbine, especially if it's unusual or not seen very often. I honestly thought the answer would come back a commercial item, I had no idea it was actually used by the Austrians to protect rear sights during storage or shipment. I didn't know they had the muzzle caps either which is why I love this forum! Very helpful folks here. I will most likely branch out into trying to collect the different leather mag pouches for the carbine from different countries as well. Those look interesting
