As far back as 1932, there were strong feelings to design a larger caliber rifle. In 1938, some 300 T38 rifles were modified with new barrels chambered for the 7.7mm cartridge. This rifle is the result of Carlary Rifle Plan #2 in which T38 Carbines got a new 7.7mm barrel. I am told there is one other rifle like this known to exist.
