BSA 1944 No.4 (T) showed up in Local Gun Shop
Owner of the local gun shop just picked up a collection and invited me to inspect them before they go on sale (I'll post more as soon as I have a chance)....one of the items was this No.4T. No scope, sadly, which immediately made me suspicious as to its authenticity. Looking it over, I see battle aperture has been removed, has T on action, TR on butt socket, M47C for BSA, S on right of action, single stakes on the pad screws, Ishy screw in fore-end, and ... Century import marks! I thought I would consult with the forum here, because WWII snipers are not my specialty. I have Ian's books, but "T"s are slightly outside my research era, so I have not examined too many of them in person. I neglected to get a pic of the underside of the buttstock, but I can follow up.
Thoughts? Comments? Real deal? Maybe the matching scope and mount are out there somewhere. It has not been put up for sale yet. I think the new owner is hoping to offload the entire collection.
