Could someone tell me what the correct front sight cover would be for an early Smith Corona A3 in the 3648000 SN range? Would it take an unmarked blued sight cover or one of the non R marked WW2 manufactured covers?

You pose a good question for which I don't have a firm answer. All I can tell you is that the later Smith-Corona rifles were fitted with a Sedgley front sight cover. But, I have no idea at what serial number the Sedgley covers started. They may have started at the very beginning for all I know. :dunno:
The only other option for an early Smith-Corona front sight cover would be one marked with a "G" (no triangle) on the right side and a drawing number on the left side.
Hope this helps.

John,
How about a plain i.e. no markings one??
just looked at a SC 4-43 dated, had the G with no triangle, and drawing number on the other side,
rifle was about as original as you find them.. so id say Johns right in his statement.
have also seen later SC,s with a G in the triangle.
Right now the rifle in question has a parkerised sight cover with no markings other than a P in a circle. I am not sure who made it bit I think that being parkerised it is WW2. I also have unmarked blued sight covers but none with the G in a triangle. Thanks for the info.
Your front sight cover, marked with an encircled "P", was manufactured by a WWII spare parts contractor. I don't believe it would be correct for a Smith-Corona rifle, but I can't rule out that possibility.
A sight cover with a "G" in a triangle is not correct for a Smith-Corona rifle. Those were made as spare replacement parts by the Gotham Pressed Steel Mfg. Co.
Hope this helps.

Thanks J.B. is it possible that SC might have been supplied with some unmarked blued sight covers early on? I will look for one with the G and no triangle.
Thanks J.B., that is what I will look for.
