FN 49 bolt stop issue
the small metal block that keeps the bolt from slamming foreword will not drop freely when the magazine follower is pushed down and the bolt is pulled back. I disassembled the rifle to better access the part. when I push it down it takes a slight amount of force but the resistance is just enough to keep it from moving on its own. I've already tried soaking it in solvent but saw no improvement. Any suggestions?
-Thanks

Can you take a file or sandpaper to it to better fit it.? Don't have one so I could be farting in the wind...

it would be near impossible to file where it needs to be filed. The piece slips into a hole and pops out the other side but that is where the follower pushes it up. most of the slide stop is inside the hole where I can't get to it

The bolt hold open is spring loaded to the down position. There must be a problem with matter jamming the spring, or the spring is missing.

I can see a single coil of spring in there. It looks broken. is there a simple way to replace it?

To fix this you have to strip it. When you replace the spring, it need to be close to what came out. This rifle has lots of strength to push it up but too much down pressure can cause failure...of the hold open.

thanks guys. I ordered the spring from a parts list so it should be exactly what I need.
