The screw for the large knob which attaches the M1d scope mount to my M84 scope is stripped :crying:
Is there a way to remove the knob or screw and replace it on the mount?
If so, any one know a good source to buy a new knob/screw or send it for repair?
Numrich sells the complete mount for $67.55, which I assume are reproductions.
Any one had experience with those?

Repro M1D mounts have a bad reputation. THey do not hold, coming loose all the time. A real USGI mount runs around $250 last time I checked, maybe more now, haven't checked in awhile.
Any one know the correct screw size for the m1d mount to attach to the garand?
The one one my original mount was stripped, so had to have it cut off.

I made my own screw (mine also stripped). It is a 12-32 thread. When I re-mounted the scope I used blue thread lock. 2 years now with no trouble.

I remember the first time (many years ago) that I first saw a M1D, our company received three M1D rifles with M84 scopes and the MRT pad. Being the company armorer, I started to open each box
and discovered the receivers were all H&R as well as the other parts except the Springfield barrels. The First Sgt said to me "didn't H&R make those cheap pocket pistols ?" I replied to him "low bid its
called" and the First Sgt answered "and they even put a scope on them !"
Do not know of a source on the mounts or parts. As previously stated, complete originals are going for $250+. Stripping the parts off a repro may be your best bet. Is the female threads on the barrel base damaged as well?
They made the bolts "soft" as to not destroy the receiver threads.
Proper torgue is essential as not to "fester" the bolt/screw.
Google the part, and hope for a low interest rate home loan to buy it.
