Yes, nice find. Thank you for posting the link. :thup:
In the photo depicting US troops , in the front rank, 7th from the right, the trooper appears to be African American. Possible ?? Also look for the mix of round canteens a and pocketed cartrige belts. They probably used the earlier M 1880 Hunting knives and Bolo blades as well. Great phto
Votan,
those are nice pictures. The two brothers on the train platform. The sailor wason the HMS Ariel. She was a small destroyer, more of a DE or corvette. Ariel was in the battles of Dogger Bank and Jutland. SHe was on mine clearing duty in the Channel in the summer of 1918 when she hit a mine and sank with most of her hands.
The pictures of the stacked arms are really vivid. I'd love toknow what unit that was.
Retread, I can't really say if that guy is balck or white. Officially the armed forces were segregated at that time, but a lot of people were passing - on both sides of the color line.
Most interesting - thanks for posting.
:super::super::super:
The canteen appears to have 12 H above the U.S. Great photos. FR
I saw images of Great War's lost generation preparing to head off to the Western Front - captured by the UK's first female Press photographer
This brought tears to my eyes, all these young men, exactly like our relatives- most perished in the slaughter of the battlefield & their families had to struggle without them...War is hell. I'm always grateful to these souls who gave their todays for our tomorrows.
