A fitting tribute to a brave man.
But one reason why there are so few living recipients.:eek:
The only one who I know about surviving that action was a British soldier who landed backwards on a grenade in Afghanistan and his rucksack adsorbed most of blast. Oddly enough he didn't get the VC for that because it was a booby trap and they were NOT under fire. If ONE round had been fired against them, it would have rated the VC.
A bit of history, Another recipient got the GC in WW2 when his bomber was hit and caught fire. He crawled out on the wing, beat the fire out, AND THEN DID IT AGAIN. BUT they were NOT under attack when he did it. If he had not done that, they never would have gotten back, but ended up in the channel.
Some rules really need to be changed. or exceptions need to be made;)
