I recently bought a Webley MKIV and after looking at pictures around the internet, I noticed that mine has a screw that I have not seen on the others. Anyone know what it might be for?

US importer added screw to pass BATF drop test.
That's very interesting Paul. Any ideas how it works? I just can't get my head around the mechanicals of it. Mind you, I never really got my head around the mechanicals of any revolvers except JUST sufficient to pass the written and practical exams
After looking at it, it appears to be similar in function with the S&W hammer block. It will only allow the hammer full forward movement when the trigger is pulled fully to the rear and then it moves upward to become a physical block in front of the hammer as the trigger is released. The screw is just the method used to hold it in proper position.
I know it takes a little away from collector value but, I don't care as, someone else will be selling them (my guns) after I am dead and gone. It shoots well and I like it with or, without the screw.:D

I have never had one to play with. The BATF problem test was the drop test. The pistol is dropped from a distance and it is not to fire. I don't know if it was cocked or just hit on the hammer with it at normal rest. I assumed it was a drop on the hammer with the screw used to block the hammer from over ridding the sear and firing the piece. Guess on my part.
Webleys also fail this test and is why we don't have more imported into the US.
