Hey Salt Flat, although no hits is close among the rifles issued to the 5th Inf...all I got, sorry.
Thanks Jim-- I've had this rifle in the back of the safe for a long time. During the pandemic I've had time to research some of these. Salt Flat
I know I've been told never to just assume they were issued in serial blocks to any unit but this one REALLY is in the middle of a vast group of numbers to the 5th Inf...and close both sides to two. Five numbers off one I think it was.
Jim, Does the SRS give a year for when they went to the 5th Inf.? From what I gather the 5th was organized in 1917 in preparation for WWI. Maybe these were to be used for training? It seems a little late though and really not relevant as bolt action rifles were the norm by then. Just a thought--
Shows most were issued '79.
I guess I was looking at the wrong 5th Infantry (Division). The 5th Infantry (Regiment) was formed in 1808 and participated in the Indian Wars, so 1879 makes sense. Great information--- Thank You, Salt Flat
Well,5th Inf...and close both sides to two. Five numbers off one I think it was..
