Carbine front sight
Can anyone help out there?
Looking for a front sight for my 1898 carbine. Someone removed the original and replaced w/aftermarket. Even a cutoff barrel stub with a complete front sight would be good. I want to get it back to USGI. Thanks in advance, all help appreciated.

Try using S&S firearms, they have the repro and original parts if you don't mind the cost!

The repros are hard, if not imposible to tell from original, except they will be new blue, but you can age it to match the rest of rifle. You are dealing with a hundred year old rifle, so what if a small part as that is a repro?

You can also try Joe DeChristopher. He has all sorts of good stuff. Mostly original.

The original will be hard soldered ( silver)and will have a very slight dove tail you will have to get it red I would recommend using something to protect the bore from scaling (heat control paste) check Brownells

If the entire front sight base is to be replaced that is a more difficult job. it is actually braised not silver soldered. If it is just the blade that is less difficult. Just remember to drift the pin the correct direction as it is tapered.
