Mitchell mausers
Mitchell Mauser's advertizes in Guns and Ammo magazine a collector grade K98k rifle. Has anyone had any experience with Mitchell Mausers ? Does anyone know if these rifles are collector quality, or have they been renumbered and refinished ? or are they Russian returns with the serial numbered etched on the bolt ? any info would be appreciated.

Nice looking rifles with no collector value, all rebuilt most likely RC's

I think Mitchell's is having the re-built today in Serbia(?) No collector value at all. Actually nice shooters, but a pain for collectors.

Fellas, this tells me what I needed to know, thanks for the responses.

A "collector grade" Mauser would be a GI bring back or early pre-68 import rifle. Hard to tell difference without capture paper or 'duffle cut'. As always, condition rules, but average NRA good will run from 800 to 2000 bucks, depending on year & maker. Matched numbers ofcourse, altho a m/m but matched bolt will not knock down price too much. Allot of bring backs have that.

You may want to look at gunboards.com total online service for the gun owner and collector, under Mauser's , read the Stickeys and get a feel for what's available. Also see www.ycgg.com, under articles for a rundown on Mausers.

Mitchell's has "force" numbered some of their guns, in other words, they used an electric pencil to put numbers on parts so they matched the receiver. "Matching numbers" in the usual sense? Nope.
