Both War Baby and the Riesch book list the late war Inland rotary safetys as being marked with E.I. or H.I. only. The one in this auction is marked IN, yet the seller claims late wwII.
Is this a repro with an inventive stamp or legitimate late war Inland safety? Thanks for any info.

Thank you, I know the books aren't always correct and can be incomplete. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some rare , elusive, IN marked wwII rotary safety.
You might want to ask Newscotlander on that one. He is really up on Inland and their subcontractors.

It looks like an N marking. I have had several with just N which are probably late war contracts.
This one looks like an N poorly struck with a gouge next to it.
I think what the seller calls an "I" is the edge of the stamp or trash on the stamp. It is an "N" as Bill said.

Again there's a difference in the books as to When these safteys(marked EI,HI) were first found as original on Inland carbines. Riesch says serial numbers 7.1 million and up. That would mean that they weren't found on Inlands until well into '45.
War Baby says they began mid '44 throught the end of production. Starting almost a year earlier. Just wondering about what serial numbers these safteys first showed up? And for that matter, when did the late type 4 mag catches show up?
The 1944 date printed in War Baby! is an error. The type IV safety was standardized in March 1945 followed by the type IV magazine catch in April 1945. For Inland carbines you're probably looking at anything assembled 30 - 45 days after the standardization date could possibly have been assembled with the latest part type. For Winchester you'll find both items at the start of their six million block for reasons I won't get into here.
