Looks like something exited the barrel at the shot. You can see a little black thing flying off. Probably a muzzle obstruction.

Something probably exited his trousers too.

id bet, that was mud stuffed in the bore..rainy day, hard walking, slip and fall, muzzle full of mud..nice find.

That's a typical barrel "bananna peel" caused by a bore obstruction near the muzzle. Probably mud as Chuck stated. Brownings are strong recievers and pretty good at venting gasses, though that one vented it foward through the barrel splits! I've repaired several for customers who fired a .270 round in a 7mm Rem. Mag. chamber. Usually blows through the magazine well and downward as that is the path of least resistance.

The black object seen to fly from the muzzle was probably a piece of the syn. stock. I'll bet the shooter had a numb hand and loss of hearing for quite a while!

not really do to much more then the sales rep in my area..

he was asked, at a Bass pro shops display.
im looking at a new hunting rifle, what makes the Browning better then say the Remington 700 , Savage, or Winchester M70?
all he said was, Browning has a great history or high end rifles, that in itself makes them a better rifle,
said nothing about the bolt, barrel, stock, or how it was made, ect.
so,i asked..really how many armed forces use the Browing bolt action rifle as a sniper rifle,?? he got a bit grumpy to say the least..
i told the guy, buy a 700 Remington, good enough for Uncle Sam, should be good enough for anyone in the field.
as i walked away, the rep, got in my face, and asked why i ruined the sale??
i responded, i didnt,,,he did.
the man had a good question, that he didnt answer, sell the rifle, not the companys history...and for the record, Browning hasnt made a rifle worth beans for 20 years.. plastic parts, aluminum ect...then you have the Boss System..eyeroll..take them off and the rifle might actually shoot..
that just fueled his fire.
called me everything but a whiteboy, lol..so i told him to get some anger managment, and educate himself on the rifles he,s trying to pawn off..
i emailed Browning about the guy, never heard back...
but it felt good to write the email.
the guy asking about the rifles, purchased a Remington 700 CDL, asked for my card,
i glass bedded it, and free floated it, turned him into a happy hunter, and a good customer. just by being honest..
id bet the Browning rep would have done the same, had he been honest, and just sold the features of the rifle.
