Help to ID this knife

Local barber found this in his building years ago.
It's marked REMINGTON ARMS Co. ILION.N.Y.
Only other marking is the number 25 near the push button release.
Total length is 12 3/4"
Hilt is 4 1/2". Cross guard is roughly 3 3/8th". Blade is 8 1/4".
Scabbard is steel with a screw attaching the inner keeper.
Leather hanger is 6" long with a worn off black looking finish.

Might this be the Mexican Model 1899 Remington Knife/Bayonet. Also known as the 1899 Mexican NO. 5 Rolling Block?
Also should I buff and clean it off....or will that effect its value?
The local barber is interested in its value.

For sure, I would not do anything to it....Just leave it alone!

janzens notebook , p219 , no1 , remington model 1889 for the rolling block , mostly export - mexico used them , but our navy had some and some state militias ,

the scabord is diferant than what they show tho , actualy it matches the one shown for mexico p142 , no2&3 , mexican m1899

Just checked Cunningham's 20th Century US Bayonets. I thought it could be a Lee Navy 1895. Says it was very similar , to the exports to Mexico, but I guess no hook. The scabbard I do believe is a 1895 1) belt hooks, 2) I have seen an 1895 in the same scabbard. Don't know for sure. SKIP

By some strange coincidence one of these has appeared on ebay item# 110403846433 Buy Now $295 . It's listed as an 1899 US Bayonet. Scabbard does not have the belt hooks. Might be a good one to follow, get an idea of pricing. Can't hurt. SKIP

I was tipped off to the one up for auction and am watching it.
