Just got a Jungle Carbine and it has either old grease or cosmoline in all the nooks and crannys. I soaked some parts in Kroil and tried the Safety Kleen tank, but those dont soften it. What will get this off without removing the black finish?

I use paint thinner (mineral spirits?) on my cosmoline-covered parts, works ok here. I don't let the parts swim in the stuff though,

Do you have a painted finish or blued metal or parkerizing?
Boiling water should melt the grease/cosmo
"...the black finish?..." That's likely Suncorite. A baked on paint finish. Field strip it and drop it in a container of mineral spirits for 24 hours. Then wipe off the cosmoline.
Anything you would use to clean the wood on your living room furniture.;)

Boiling water on the metal parts followed by CLP when they are dry works the best without a lot of effort. Take the heated parts directly from the boiling water and place them on absorbent material in the hot sun for a quick dry.
As for the cosmoline impregnated wood; wrap the greasy furniture in layers of absorbent paper towels and place them in a black garbage bag in the hot sun. You will be surprised how much cosmoline is extracted. You might have to repeat this procedure several times.
