S'G' M1 Carbine restoration questions
I have a Bavarian Rural Police S'G' M1 Carbine in the low 1.8 million range that I am attempting to put back to rights.
I would appreciate knowledgeable folks telling me what they think the following parts should be marked(in north to south order)
1)Handguard(the one on it is a RMC 2 rivet)
2)Stock,(current one is an Inland)
3)Mag catch
4)Safety
5)Rear Sight(has an IR stamped adjustable on it now)
6)Recoil Plate
7)Buttplate
8)Magazine
9)Firing Pin
10)Extractor
Most of what is there seems to be correct although there are quite a few IP parts on board like the "dogleg"hammer and various other bits and pieces.
I had never seen a receiver with a tiny Ordnance "Bomb" at the right rear (side just at the end of the track for the slide) and also on the exposed portion of the slide too.All in all it is quite a nice little rifle and I am only into it for $400.The Germans blued most of the parts and got busy numbering the slide and bolt to the rifle.I don't have a bolt tool so perhaps it might be a plan to add extractor and firing pin markings to the list above now that I think of it.I am about to ask a buddy in VA to find me one.
My thanks in advance for your assistance in this exercise.John R.
Postscript to original request for info on S'G' M1 Carbine
It looks like a few of you missed the fact that I am up in Vancouver,British Columbia,CANADA.
M1 Carbines are restricted weapons up here and do NOT command anywhere near the astronomical prices you see some folks asking south of the 49th.I am restoring the rifle for amusement more than anything else.
I can probably access the parts I need in South East Asia later on this summer but first I have to know what it is that I need.I was looking at a 6 foot square crate perhaps five feet deep in partial M1 Carbines most of which had flip sights, just sitting there going nowhere last time I was out there.I can in all probability gather all of what I need out of that one crate but I have to know what it is that I need first.
There are probably more Bavarian M1 Carbines up here than any others as they were the last ones to come in back in the late 1970's.They do NOT fetch any sort of premium and the CMP has no effect on prices of anything although the odd opportunist attempts to use the CMP auction idiotic prices when trying to flog some Blue Sky POS on a Canadian firearms website as is the case as I type this.He is citing a Blue Sky Korean refinished to perdition M1 Garand as probably being a CMP import so you KNOW the guy is a crook trying to mislead the unwary.
Nonetheless ;IF you can clue me in as to which parts I need to put this S'G' Carbine back to rights I shall be most appreciative. As I said this is strictly for my own interest and I will in all probability never see anything more than what I put into it should I sell it in the future. It can't be shipped South either so that isn't a factor to consider either.
Cheers,
JR
