I was in BIG 5 in Cal last week. I enquired about M1 carbine ammo. The clerk said it was $46.00 a box but they dint have any. Hard to believe it could be that expensive. don in fl.

Was it standard .30 carbine ball (FMJ) or some type of hunting round at that price (i.e., soft or hollow point)? When I go to Sports Unlimited or Bass Pro Shop they seldom have ever had FMJ, so when you're pricing their ammo it's usually a more expensive hunting round. Back in the day of $10.00 a box FMJ's, Remington or Winchester hunting ammo was $20 to $25.
If it's nearly $50 a box for FMJ's is really out of sight and the anti-gun folks really are winning, whether on purpose or not, by making the sport unaffordable.
I dropped by Cabela's in Fort Worth this morning and they had about 20 boxes of S&B FMJ in stock at $21.99 a box. I didn't get any - I still have a stock of factory ammo, I'm not greedy so I left it for someone else. I prefer Reminnton, but haven't seen any in months. Of course, I actually would like to find some primers!!!
I saw many boxes of 50 for $22 at the gunshow at the York Fairgrounds last weekend. The catch is: berdan primed and steel cases.
At a gun show in Odessa yesterday, my Mentor/Good Friend sold me a case of 10 boxes of Remington/UMC Yellow box 110 grain FMJ for $10. a box!! Hot Damn!!
