I know someone has already posted this info, but I can't find it now. What is the loading for 140 grain tracer bullets, in the 30.06 gun, do we cut the load down or do we just go to the book load? 58 grains of H414, in the bolt gun? is this OK? I have a couple pounds of H414 to shoot up and not waste the 4895 powder which I shoot in the Garand and the M14 type.
Compared to M2 ball with a powder similar to IMR-4895 or H-4895 might closer in this case the M2 does 2740 fps with 47.8 grains of H-4895 (is faster than IMR-4895) and the M25 tracer load uses 46.3 grains of H-4895 for a rated velocity of 2660 fps. So it's 1.5 grains less powder with this burning rate powder and 80 fp slower. The M2 ball is rated at 7.5 inch accuracy at 600 yards and the M25 tracer is rated at 18.0 inches accuracy at 600 yards. With H-414 you may want to reduce by more than 1.5 grains from a 150 grain bullet load it may not hurt anything.
The Extruded powders seem to do a better job at lighting up the tracers than ball types. The 4895s and 4064s seem to work best for me.
And remember that 145gr tracer bullet is LONG for its weight...it will take up more room seated deep down into that case. As this raises chamber pressure a bit, reduce your charges like John mentioned when working up a load based on a nontracer bullet of the same weight.
