Comparitive value of a Swedish M96 vs M38

All other things be equal, which is more valuable, a 1901 Swedish Mauser with matching numbers or a 1941 M38 Swedish Mauser with matching numbers?

Here in Mauserland: The M38 if it is one made new with a turned-down bolt, not a conversion of an M96 (i.e. an M96-38), which would still have a straight bolt handle. Caution: too many unscrupulous people with welding torches know this - careful investigation required. Get the Dana Jones book or find someone who has it. But the extra value is not huge, as there are plenty of Swedes around in excellent condition.

Yes, I'm aware of the difference. I've had a 94, 96, 96/38, WWII 38 and WWII 96. I need to sell either the 96 or the WWII 38. They are in equal condition.

I believe the 38 would bring more. However, value is determined only by what a buyer and seller agree on.

I suggest you offer both, and take the better of the two deals.

50.00 to 100.00 diff. from what I have seen at shows.

Just my opinion. I would pick the long rifle. I much prefer the walnut stocks!
