New Jungle Carbine Lots of Pics-Modem Burner

Picked this Carbine up about a month ago, with a Wilkinson Bayo. Finally got it all cleaned up, and shot it today. It Shot great. The Front sight is a Savage and not correct but It shot good enough that Im not going to change it. Is there a source to get more info about the numerous markings. I have Stratton's book, but there seems to be more marks than he has listed. There is a circled D in a few places and the reciever has many F's (Fazakerley)on it followed by a Y and the cocking piece has what looks like F5. The pic of the cocking piece looks more like FS. The barell has an R44 stamped on it.
There is a small hole on the bottom of the forearm that looks like something was mounted there? Enjoy the pics

That IS a nice, clean No. 5. Congrats on a great find! Any number of people are sure to point out that the sling is on inside out but I distinctly remember being told to fit it as you do (and polish the brass).

Thanks! I have the clips (open end)facing out on the sling, but I have them covered in Bubble wrap so it may look the other way arround. Not sure which way is correct. Dont want to mark the wood :nono:

Gerry - great idea on the bubble wrap and if you are using that POF ammo and get a 'dud' you can always 'pop' one of the bubbles and know one will know the difference.
(by the way - Nice looking No5)

Great rifle. I am lucky to have two of them and I use one of them as a back up rifle for shooting chucks (pasture poodles). For me, it works well under two hundred yards.

Has a real old Weaver K 2.5 (brass) that somebody put on it after modifying the action. At least they used Parker Hale mounts.

I use commercial ammo but I have not heard the wood chucks complain.

Try Googling "American wood chuck". If that does not satisfy you, I will try to get an image of a "Chuck" for you.

Might even show you one that has been deceased by the Jungle Carbine. Probably not for the faint of heart as those 180 grain softnose bullets really do some damge to the creature

Good thing, Google. Found out that it´s a groundhog (and what it looks like). Think it´s what m´father called a "desert rat".

Is it possible that in Germany, there is a related species? Here in NW Pennsylvania, there are a nusiance!

Cows break their legs in the burrows, Farm equipment can be broken as the "chucks" mound up the dirt around their burrows and you can break a cutting bar on them.

Chucks also carry fleas and ticks which they can pass on to us.

I see you are in Berlin Germany and I probably would not be home much if I lived there. All your history, battle sites, etc. My metal detector and research books would be in constant use. Thanks!
