I just acquired my first Enfield - an Enfield made 1913 SMLE MkIII. I'm brand new to these rifles (but you have to start somewhere). I'm typically a Garand guy, but I wanted to branch out and the Enfield was an easy choice. Being new to this, can you guys recommend any good books on the Enfield? I'd like to learn more about history, technical specs., and general maintenance. I'm really in need of information on field stripping it - it's in great shape, but it really needs a good cleaning.
First rule of new rifles... take pictures. Then as you clean, etc., take pictures. Then when you are finished, take pictures. Second rule of new rifles... post a description of the new rifle along with pictures taken in accordance with the first rule of new rifles. Third rule of new rifles... take the new rifle with correct ammunition to the range for firing, targeting, group evaluation and, you guessed it, take pictures. Fourth rule of new rifles... post a report of your range trip with the new rifle and post the new pictures.
Seriously, a 1913 SMLE Mk. III sounds like a real blast from the past! Pay close attention to the four rules of new rifles... we'll be waiting. Sincerely. BruceV.

The book you need is "The Lee Enfield" by Ian Skennerton. A little pricey maybe but well worth it. As mentioned previously, we like pictures. We like 'em a lot.
