Need Bolt info for 1903 Mark I Springfield

I have what I believe is a very correct 1903 Mark I Springfield Rifle (it fits the descriptions I have read). However, it does not have a complete Springfield Bolt assembly. The bolt body in it is a Remington, and the Bolt sleve is also a Remington. I don't know what other parts are labeled or marked on the bolt but those two are defintely Remington. It is barrel dated 11-18 and the serial number falls into the "new" curved bolt range 104523x correct for the barrel date. I have had this rifle for a long long time and it is in excellent condition.

I was wondering if there is a picture reference source somewhere, or if a member has a few nice photos they could share with me detailing the correct markings on a correct Springfield bolt of this vintage rifle. I am going to try to find a correct bolt for it.

The chamber receiver has the original early almost black looking parkerized finish, the barrel breech face and the rest of the rifle have more or less traces of original blue or completely worn off.

Does your rifle have a Mark I stock? Does it have the other Mark i parts?

Yes...it has all the above parts, and the correct stock with cut-out fro Ped. Dedvice.

The rifle actually still has cosmoline in it from the arsenal. The upper handguard is a WWII replacement I think as it is not the extreme "high hump" type. But it matches the finish of the correct lower so beautifully that I would never replace it.

I have been to Vi-shooter's M1903 page and matched up what I have including the MKI trigger cut off (mine has it in place yet) ...but I still do not see exactly what bolt would be proper. I assume now it must have a J on the upper flat...but really, other than that I am still looking for details.

It appears that your rifle was made in December, 1918 and the J5 (marked on the bottom of the safety lug) bolt would be correct.

...and what part is the "safety lug"? Do you mean the safety lock assembly...or the Bolt Sleeve. My picture reference of parts is the NRA guide of the 1903 Springfields...the safety lock is the swinging lever on the bolt sleeve...is that the piece?

The last time I was at The Dealers Warehouse, in Modesto, CA they had that bolt. Call them ASAP. Good luck.

Go to V1shooters page and scroll down until you find "SA J5 Swept Handle". I believe it is on the right side of the screen. It will have a photo showing the "J5" stamp on the bolt safety lug. HTH

Thanks I see it...now any idea what the Bolt Sleeve and Safety Lock assembly should look like??? What markings should they have. Mine now are Remington and have an "R" on them. What would the Springfield parts have?
