Model 12 trench markings
Any idea what US C+CCC electro/vibropenciled on the side of a Winchester model 12 trench gun would signify? Below that it also has TEC w/ some numbers written in the same manner but at a different time. Won't see the shotgun again till friday.

US Check & Credit Clearing Company?
Actually there is a modern company called that operating in UK.
I did some digging and came up with some classified and unclassified documents from the early 50's with a reference to C&CCC. a little more digging and bingo, I found a connection to C&CCCC and the AEC....
http://www.ornl.gov/info/reports/1951/3445603527681.pdf scroll to bottom of title page (page 1 - you need Adobe to view)
"Oak Ridge Laboratory operated by Carbide & Carbon Chemicals Company"
Not hard to make the jump there and connect that to US C&CCCC. The AEC was real big on using trenchguns to guard their facilities, I have seen many examples so marked. This could just be a variation on the theme....
How about some pictures of the whole shotgun?
Hope this helps.

Well, that changes my perspective a bit! Had an uncle who worked his entire career as a chemical engineer at Oak Ridge. Last time I was there the guard shacks were still standing on the roads leading to the town and facilities. They're kind of lost in the undergrowth in the woods. Concrete construction IIRC.
Now, I'm really kind of sucked in! Dang.
Its a 1945 vintage S/N, I think.
The "Y" may be a building locator, gotta refresh my memories a bit- talk to some relatives- and maybe figure how how to get ahold of this beastie.
:move eek: "Y-12" was the area in Oak Ridge where their part of the Manhattan Project was carried out, mostly refining out the U-235. I think the Plutonium was generated there also. I should have remember that bit immediately! Wrote school reports on it many many moons ago.
Yet more! Got internetting and found that the Tennessee Eastman division of Eastman Kodak was the company running stuff before the C+CCC took over. So "TEC" might just be yet another tie-in! Scary stuff.
Yet, yet more: You know, I don't think I'd be more enthusiastic if I'd been told it had been to Iwo or Okinawa. I really didn't think the intials would pan out to be any more than some obscure prison guard thing. Errrr-:dancingbanana:-- :)- :runaway:- :D- :banghead:-- D'oh!- - Oh, well.....

Should get it cheap because it's been defaced. At least that's what you should mention to the seller, ;) Ray

Update: Finally got the shotgun deal locked up! Not all paid for, yet, but its not likely to escape. Selling a "tactical" Saiga 12ga AK that I put together to keep the bank account somewhat intact.
Yet more rain as I type: hopefully no more flooding!
